Promoting tax-free shopping at party conferences

AIR held industry lunches at the Conservative and Labour party conferences, bringing together members of Parliament, business leaders and trade body chiefs to plan the next stage in the campaign to restore tax-free shopping.

With the focus on the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement on November 22nd, MPs urged businesses across the UK to make short submissions to the Treasury calling for the reinstatement of tax-free shopping.

Also at the conference, AIR’s Chief Executive Paul Barnes joined a TaxPayers Alliance speaker panel discussing how the Government have turned their back on success. He cited the ending of tax-free shopping as an example of a missed opportunity for post-Brexit growth.

The Minister for London, Paul Scully MP, speaking at the BusinessLDN reception, praised AIR’s campaign and pledged his support.
